Bull (Potency, Wealth)
Bull charges forward. Bull is the name for male cattle, the females are called cows. While both became linked with wealth for their meat, and cows for milk, the focus will be on bull. With larger frames, thicker bones, and large muscular heads and necks, bulls are adapted to show dominance. Bulls have long been a symbol of fertility. This is likely because it was the largest, strongest bull that would win in shows of force and reproduce with numerous cows. Anatomically a bull’s virility can be seen quite plainly, furthering the view of bull as a symbol of potency. Even castrated bulls had a use as oxen, to pull a plow or draw up heavy buckets of water from a well. Whether or not a bull has horns has more to do with breed than with sex. Some breeds of female cows may also possess horns. The female counterpart of bull, cow, could provide nourishment through milk without sacrificing its life. Cows weren’t seen to be as powerful as bulls were. Despite being strict herbivores bulls can be quite aggressive, often pawing at the ground as a warning that they may charge.

Bulls can be quite stubborn; a trait which has been noted by many cultures. The Minoan culture venerated bull, as seen in legends of the Minotaur. Hindu culture also worships cows, seen as the reincarnation of lost ancestors it is taboo to eat them, or even cause them injury. The Egyptian god Osiris is sometimes depicted with the head of a bull, and both ancient Egyptian and Greek cultures worshipped bulls, using them frequently as sacrifices. A 'bull market' indicates a rising stock market, clearly the association of bull with wealth lingers still. To 'grab the bull by the horns' is an expression about meeting challenges head on, seizing opportunities. Bull, with its strength, was seen as an indication of power. The aggressive nature of bull lends itself well as a metaphor for potency. Because of it's visible anatomy bull is seen as masculine, but the crescent shape of its horns also links it to the (feminine) moon. Bullfighting, where a human will ‘fight’ and sometimes kill a bull in an arena is still practiced (though less widely than historically) in Spain. Cattle in general are still used for food, hide, and milk; as well as occasionally for labour.

When Bull had charged its way into a reading it can bring opportunity for wealth in all it's forms. Are you being too stubborn? How are you sowing fertility in your life? Are you using your potency to the best effect? Earth is the element most linked to bull. A study of moon (and even sun) may also provide insight.

Astrology- (Celtic Apr 15- May 12) This Celtic sign is known as The Observer. Linked to the Celtic tree sign of Willow, those with this sign are strong and stable. Bulls will offer an honest opinion and solid advice. With bulls-eye accuracy they can spot a lie from miles away. Stubborn and moody, Bull needs to be cautious of these traits in themselves. Bull is trustworthy and will be there if you need a shoulder to cry on.
(Chinese Ox 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021, 2033, 2045 or Jan 6- Feb 3) The Chinese sign of Bull (sometimes called Ox) is confident and determined. This earth sign can show great patience when required to. Loyal Bull can be introverted though, and may be seen as too conservative. Sometimes clumsy and slow bull prefers simplicity in all aspects of life. Head-strong to a fault Bull can even be violent on occasion. Bull shows extreme strength of character, always reliable.

This earth sign is loving and appreciative of those around them. Taurus make wonderful confidantes, and are easy to talk to. This sign is practical, efficient, and excellent with business matters. Ultimately this sign is generous and sympathetic; despite its stomping.
