I don't post traditional art often nowadays. Nice change!
To be honest, I started to sketch this one without paying much of attention. At the beginning I didn't thought I'll color or finish this piece.
Happily akryl gave me his brushes [my whole brush-box got destroyed... sadly. One of a reason why I don't post much of a traditional stuff] and I decided to finish it. This is fully colored with watercolors and brushwork! I don't think I ever did watercolor-only colorwork before. It was fun and I want to do it again soon! In big part it was inspired by Mystalia artworks.
That's partially my vision of Smaug. Design is a total mishmash, I'm not fully happy about it. In fact, it was an effect of mindless sketching. There are some parts from book descriptions I really wanted to follow - colors, gem armor, ears and snake-ish, curly body... but rest is just made up without thinking. Against everything I really wanted to add horns.
In the end - I like it a lot! I really feel like rebuilding my tools and supplies to make more traditional art. I realized how much I missed it. Especially when it's not rushed.
Painted with watercolors over pencil sketch.
12"x18" / a bit bigger than A3.
