Tonight I rediscovered my catharsis. From 5:30 this evening till nearly 2 oclock I have been sharpening two of my knives. I have reminded myself why nearly anyone I know will tell you if you have a blade that needs attention to bring it to me. I have been treating my blades like my artwork, rushing and leaving it half done in lieu of speed and quick response.

Tonight I did it for me. Watching as all the impurities faded away and the hard edges softened to water like ripples reflecting the faintest light til it seemed like it glowed. I watched as every darkened pit in the edge disappeared until even I could no longer tell where the sides connected to the point. The faintest touch of my finger down the edges separated the skin as it slid along.

Ain't it sharp enough yet?
It's never sharp enough.
