Colosseum Idol (Card) by InfiniteSilence

Colosseum Idol (Card)

InfiniteSilence

Happy Magic Monday y'all! I got so excited by the recent fanart I immediately made it into a card, one I'm particularly proud of.

Game Design Notes:

'Low mana mythics with really pushed stats' are about the only kinda mythic that isn't some completely over the top legend, and here's one of them. I almost considered throwing in vigilance but decided that would be a bit much.

What we have here as basic design is a really good beatstick who makes an excellent mule for the buff spells that are endemic to red/white, albeit trading some of the raw efficiency of something like Seasoned Hallowblade or Tenth District Legionnaire for flexibility; having both SOME of the advantage of the latter or protection of the former.

What Jack here has going for her in card form is an activated ability that doubles as protection AND spell copying, spell copying being a pretty common effect for red and protection being common enough in white; albeit in this case it combines to take the form of spell redirecting, a much rarer but not unheard of effect.

The flavor of the card is effectively meant to be hitting back the removal effect with that club she's carrying. It's the almighty power of baseball, take that pitch and return to sender. Funniest possible response to 'murder', just going 'no u'

That said, the effect doesn't quite work if the opponent has no valid targets of their own, a slight drawback that becomes a lot greater against decks that run nothing but removal, which is already a weakness for red/white.

The priceyness of the effect also makes it less than ideal in many situations, an effect that flexible would be incredibly dangerous in green, but red/white often has less free mana than just about any other color, restricting its use.

However, it does have synergy with some other parts of red/white, such as its occasional focus on activated abilities with Zirda and some support like that; and I did also make an equip or two to synergize with it.

All in all, it's intended to not really fundamentally shake up it's deck's playstyle, but to be a highly useful utility in it, supporting most of the color's playstyles, including Feather, Warriorspam, and even Equips to a degree.

Also lookit her! She's so happy uwu
