Felipe, Frontier Inventor (Card) by InfiniteSilence

Felipe, Frontier Inventor (Card)

InfiniteSilence

Hey hey it's magic monday. Have a creature!

Despite being swole, he actually supports degenerate izzet bullshit.

Game Design Notes:
Rather than just making random cards, I ended up designing a set and setting to shove all my furries into in MTG context. The slowly dying plane of Sonora. Most of its mechanics are focused on the impending doom; and, in the case of the Frontiersmen faction headed by Felipe here, their mechanic is 'Probe'

A keyword focused on giving creatures pseudo-planeswalker like abilities by having them accumulate counters and then spend them on some kind of ultimate effect.

Just... only the ultimate effect, because otherwise they're just creatures.

It's meant to represent the fact that everybody in the faction is trying as hard as they can to find a way OFF of the plane, Probing the limits of their own reality until they figure out something they can do.

Given that you can't brute force your way into being a planeswalker, it's a moderately doomed endeavor, but they get some cool magic out of it.

In Felipe's case, he synergizes with the core set gimmick of 'Dying Lands', lands that can only be tapped a certain number of times before they sac themselves (which I'll share upon request along with a mega-sized drop of other support if there's interest.)

...But also as a major faction leader is made RATHER STRONG.

His effect, while a LITTLE slow, is painfully powerful, making it much, much easier for instant/sorcery spam izzet decks to get an infinite loop going, or simply overload their spells for more damage right away.

If you don't win on the turn you've activated it, you've probably screwed yourself utterly, but that's most combo decks.

Nevertheless, Felipe doesn't actually enforce any specific combo. In addition to spell spam he may also be part of a shenanigan or two based on playing lands from the graveyard; but most of those run off cards that are already banned elsewhere or simply require too many specific cards at once to really destroy the meta.

Y'know, probably. Any 'burst mana' effect will probably result in at least one shenanigan.

But what's Felipe supposed to do? NOT burn away the remains of the world in one final desperate attempt to survive its death? Pfeh! Pfeh I say!

He's still a little janky, being easy enough to kill before he goes off and his effect being a rather extreme minus if you're not either using the set gimmick or planning a complete combo right now, but c'mon every set likes Johnny bait.
