Ok, story time! While at Further Confusion 2023 earlier this year, I received an unexpected DM from someone staffing as a con art director ask if I'd like to participate in a competition for FC Unleashed where artists would do drawings based on audience suggestion, and then people would bid on the drawings with the money going to charity. I had never participated in an event like this before so I said I'd be interested, and asked when the event would be and would it be at the con's main stage. Initially it was going to be on January 14th at 5:30PM and it was suggested the artists participating arrive 30 minutes ahead of time. A little while later, I received another DM letting me know the event was delayed to Sunday January 15th. So on Sunday, I brought a large drawing pad with me and I got pretty nervous in the morning anticipating the event. I'd never had anyone bid on my art, so I knew I had to do a really good job. To blow off steam, I did this drawing of Domino in my sketchbook to reflect how I felt.
As 5:30 got closer, I tried to look for where all the artists were waiting around the main stage and asked con ops where was I supposed to line up. I presumed that the art competition would take place on the large main stage where FC Unleashed usually performs. The volunteers in con ops weren't sure at first, but eventually I was told that the competition was actually being held at a different stage in a different part of the hotel. By the time I got directions to the right stage, I was told the competition had already been over for an hour and a half and I missed out on it. So not only was the competition at a different location than I thought, it had also been re-scheduled to an earlier time in the day and I wasn't informed. I was pretty disappointed, and it ended FC on a sour note for me. So moral of the story, make sure to ask more specific details and questions about where you have to be and at what time, especially if a schedule change occurs and you're left out of the loop. I do like that this experience inspired me to draw Domino in a situation I'd usually never put him in, lol.
