well, the song itself is probably about a narcissistic and (likely) emotionally abusive man (gotye's part) who is singing "sour grapes" as it were when his girlfriend (Kimbra's part) has finally had enough, leaves him, and because he's been creeping despite his claim that they could remain friends, goes ahead and cuts his clingy ties completely. To me the video is symbolic of his own twisted and fractured worldview, and how he paints himself as a martyr and victim and how he pulls others into his delusions (thus why she is painted as well) and how by the end she is able to remove his delusions from herself and be free of him and his twisted paradigm.

That is very insightful, i havn't heard it a lot though, i love it for the hours of art work they must have put into it
