Prismacolour is all I use, they're fantastic...and it shows. This piece is very well done, showing off the 'warm' colors perfectly.

I love all the different color values in the shading the lighting. This can be achieved very well with pencils and you're on the right track. I would try some bizarre and strange color combo's just for practice. You never know :)
