I SAID I WOULD DO IT AND I DID! For those unaware back on April fools a neopet fansite made a 'build a new neopets species' challenge which was basically taking all the parts of every neopet (since neopets are flash multi layered images) and letting you combine the pieces. One result I made was this so I actually modified the design into an actual functional alien. The sketch of this chap has been sitting in my inbox for a while but I finally got around to finishing it this weekend.

Oemuk are a species found in the depths of the planet Blaeta (home planet of the Shlen). Like with many fauna of that planet it is not of a class found on Earth though they do possess some traits of crustaceans as well as fish.
Oemuk are ambush predators that use a unique mimic camouflage to catch prey. Due to the mismatch look of their head and body from above they appear to be a small arthropod feeding on a deceased fish. When prey comes close enough to investigate a possible meal they release their single foot from whatever they were using as an anchor and lunge themselves at it.
This species is actually relatively smart and docile, because it can be taught basic tricks and live well over 60 years they are a species often chosen for off planet aquariums to showcase some of the unique life of said planet.
