This was my second submission to the MFM 2014 tshirt contest. It was done entirely over the weekend of July 4th after finding out the deadline for the contest had been extended. I understand why they did it, but after waiting since April for the contest to close and only finding out about the extension three days after the original deadline, I was a little miffed. So, I took all that emotional energy and channeled it into this, instead of getting too grumpy with the con (they have an awful lot to take care of beyond just the contest, and do a really great job - they don't need me grousing at them about something silly). (Also, they probably didn't get a whole lot of entries in by the original deadline, and it wouldn't be much of a contest without a good selection of entries to choose from.)
Any who! I was going for a movie poster look with this one, and actually used movie posters as references for two of the images (left to right: theme - Cowboys vs. Furries, referenced one of the movie posters for Cowboys vs. Aliens; theme - Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Steam Punk Skunk, referenced some of the posters for Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows; theme - Killer Furs from Outer Space, I did not use any movie posters as a direct reference but it does have aspects of the Scream, Aliens, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind movies going on here (I could have referenced the movie posters from Killer Clowns from Outer Space, the movie the theme is parodying, but clowns kinda freak me out).

I really feel good about this one. The only things that really bother me are 1) the lettering - which is done entirely by hand, and which I really have no confidence in (especially my "s"s, which are terrible, and that "y" just is not so good); 2) the cracking glass in the third image - it was very difficult to keep that negative space while I was inking and there are parts of those cracks which were not thick enough to scan or be readily visible (that finger almost completely disappears).

    This has nice chiaroscuro.

There's a term I haven't heard in a while (had to look it up, it's been a few years since I was in an art class, which is the last time I heard the term). Thank you!

This would make a great poster! But I think it would have a horrible hand on a shirt. Too much solid ink to touch.
