Doing magic

EthanQix

I always found people dismissing art as "just art" disconcerting. When I think about what I do, I always find myself comparing it to some sort of magic.

Deep down, of course, it's just pen strokes, brush strokes, clay, sounds, whatever. But with enough vision and enough practice, one can fit those basic elements into a pattern, weaving those strands into something more complicated. And somewhere along the line, the magic happens and those woven strands become more than the sum of their parts. They become a symphony. They become a landscape. They become a person with hopes and dreams, who looks back at you.

Even if some days it's harder than others, I enjoy creating things <3

I think the less the artist insists themself into the art the higher the art will be, because the true impulse comes from something that is outside the artist and is not rational or reducible to mechanistic formulation, and the less ego resistance it encounters in its instrument, the artist, the more faithfully it is expressed in the work. it's hard to talk about without coming across as hugely pompous, but anyone who's experienced it I think knows that that's the case.

Duncan Trussell and Daniele Bolleli had a fascinating conversation recently, part of which concerns creativity.

anyway, I like this picture. glowing, neon, and floaty flowing stringy sinuous lines are always good to me =')
