Her form had nearly finished its sporadic shifting, control returning to her. Angling her head upward, she could make out the surface. Some part of her mind, a remote place that was not still panicking about the need to breath, recognized that this could not possibly be the small garden pond.

The amulet was so small next to her now. Just a twinkling light of arcane futility, no longer connected to something needing protection, but rapidly burning itself out against the onslaught of a new world's own reality. It drifted down into darker depths as the young mage propelled herself upward with an unfamiliar body.
