A week later (and one flash Animation between) an updated version of my shooter game.
I've added a player charged shot (which will cut through the enemy shots), and gave the enemy some orbiting attack units as well as a shield. The enemy shots fire a bit slower from the previous version, giving you more time to shoot them down.
I still have to add in an enemy charged attack as well as explosions and impact effects. Once that's done I'll probably be more ready to create a mech opponent.
