Zeman Bastogne, the 2nd main character of the Defiance story.

He's the lieutenant commanding the main battery of USS Charlotte, BB504 during the first part of the story.

This is a young version of him, before his tangle with the Iranian Elite Forces where he earned the Medal of Honor for going into a warzone, against orders, and dragging a scout squad from a firefight. During that firefight, Zeman get's shot twice and tastes a torso full of Iranian rocket.

He manages to survive long enough for rescue, but his actions saves an 8 man squad from being killed in combat.

His right arm is severely damaged by the rocket blast. Limited mobility, lots of nerve endings damaged, torn, and forever sending signals of pain to his brain.

After the fall, in the second part of the story Zeman leads the North Kepler Navy, or at least what remains of it, on the Kepler colony of Pennsylvania.
