Red--Life

ekakinomi-art

Our first of a collection of pictures for Pride Month, and also to celebrate the summer solstice. We're sorry these pics came so late! We spent so much time scrambling around trying to get the company up and running that we almost completely forgot! But never-the-less, like a good team we just barely made it. And so here you go!

Did you know that all the colored stripes on the L.G.B.T. pride flag have different meanings? For example, the red stripe stands for life, and how important it is to all the gay people around the world. To represent this, I have here a lesbian couple of Japanese macaques, or snow monkeys, sharing their dance with their little girl, who was born to the pinkish monkey and a male best friend, and their baby boy, who they adopted for their own. This is to symbolize that these monkeys have a life together, and that the family lives it to the fullest!

Using an art style inspired by Polynesian tattoos, each couple represents a different type of relationship on the spectrum of love, and most (but not all of them) are animals who very often form the relationships they represent in real life. Each one is also based on a different color of the L.G.B.T. pride flag (with small hints of other rain-bow colors), and is adorned with Hawaiian plants and flowers (and clothing/accessories inspired by them) that match their respective color. For example, Japanese snow monkeys get pink faces in the winter (but not in the warmer months). Anyway, we thought it was enough of a connection to make them the red couple. Many female monkeys will form very strong romantic bonds, and make love with one another. And finally, the monkey couple in this picture are wearing such flowers as hibiscus and plumeria (the flowers in the pinkish monkey's hair), Ohi' a Lehua and Hanging Lobster Claw (in the reddish monkey's hair and on her ear), Royal Poinciana (the pinkish monkey's swim-dress) and Pink Ginger and Anthurium (the little girl monkey's tiny pony-tail and ear-ring, respectively).

I hope you enjoy, and look out for the next one!
