Many of the scenes in Long Island were inspired by my time as a security guard on the grave yard shift. Most nights pass by well with a radio or some other distracting audio device, but when the power goes out, as it occasionally does in any area surrounded by trees that gets windy, and the radio stops playing, time can slow to a crawl and things that never used to make noise before become unbearable. Many nights have ended with my relief wondering why the wall clock was sitting outside when they came in to work.
