Ruins of Melancholy by DimeSpin

Ruins of Melancholy

DimeSpin

Parker spent almost a hundred years in the ocean, isolated and exiled, before he finally just gave up. He did not feel that he could keep going. He beached himself, entirely intending to let himself rot there and die.

But he’d beached himself near a town, and he was soon found by a man named Ernest.

When Ernest found him, he was already so broken and listless he figured he was going to die and there wasn’t much he could do about it.

So he just stayed with him. He visited him, talked to him. He picked out debri and dirt that fell into his broken, wounded body.

And that was enough.

This is something of a prequel to my previous painting Falling Apart

I've stopped to think about this picture now and again ever since I saw it. I admire your creativity and unique weirdness so much!

Seeing this image again and thinking about your characters and their eventual deaths I'm wondering. Does your headword have a religion? Is it "correct"? I there an afterlife for them, and if so, what is it?

(sorry I didn't answer sooner, been a busy month!) There are many religions. none of them are "correct" - the world they live in either has no afterlife, or it's not knowable, since no one comes back or all signs to the contrary can be explained other ways - which means it's possible for a reasonable person to believe, or not believe, without being in total denial about the reality they live in (though some do that anyway and believe things that are just flatly wrong), sort of like real life.
