Private Eye Roy by Deriaz

Private Eye Roy

Deriaz

I have no idea what to title this.

Anyways, after shaod's (FA) and a few other friend's opinions, a common thread is that I should do a style sheet kind of thing for commissions. But I don't know that I really have a collection of imagery that I want to assemble into one right now -- there's the commissions I did for lauralien, but I don't want the sheet to be -just- that.

Then I decided, maybe I could re-do a few images from a while back, bring them up to par, use them! And then maybe one or two additional images. So the first one here is that cat detective-like guy that people on various sites seemed to like. I decided to re-paint him, give him a full body, make him a little less bulky, and so on. Even added the little cigarette a friend thought he needed so long ago. This is what I wound up with.

I started calling him "Roy" in my head while I was painting him, since I thought he needed a name. Critiques are welcome. Enjoy~

    can be "detective"

Yeah, hah, he doesn't read so much as a detective. At this point, I think of him more as some sort of ruffian. I kept "detective" in the description because the original black/white pencil sketch had that thought in it, but it's not super relevant anymore, perhaps.

    Call him Detective Dickbutt.

After some consideration, I think I'm going to pass on this one. Hah!

I figured. I just wanted to say it.

It's all good. It gave me a chuckle at the least! I wasn't expecting it.

Really wonderful! My only critique, or... Suggestion rather, would be to change the title from Athletic to something closer to the description that you've made for Roy. :3

Ahhh, I've been thinking about this since I uploaded it. You are right, it needs a better name. But all I can think to do is name it "Roy" for now. But that seems uninteresting. But maybe that's all it needs.

Oops. It seems I was a bit late with my comment, as others have already suggested. XD Though, how about naming him Private Eye Roy? Not entirely a detective per se. A little more rough and noire-like. :D

I actually changed the title due to your comment!

I completely forgot about Private Eyes. That sounds like a great compromise. I'm going to use that, if you don't mind~

Go right ahead! Glad I could help!~ X3

I really like the lighting and shading...that hint of yellow on the fur is very appealing for the lighting effects!

Hey, thanks! I was given the comment that I should try and look more for subtle color in white tigers, and a lot of the pictures I found had some soft yellow or blue in them. So I tried adding it -- I'm not sure if what I got was exactly what was critiqued, but I do enjoy the look. It's at least got a bit of life to it.

You're most welcome! It looks better than simply using a gray or off-gray for the small details like that on white fur!

I like the way he looks, he reminds me characters from 1960s movies.

(Oops, I almost missed this!) Thanks! That was the general idea, so I'm glad it comes through! I'm still not exactly sure he looks like how I want him to, but hey, at least it was good practice.
