For deviantart users these are open species, but I'm pretty sure you probably need to have a deviantart account to make one of either, so that you could ask the owners/creators of the species any questions, see if your design is okay with them, and so on... anyway...

I’m currently think of them as both girls, who are best friends, happening to live in the same part of the ocean… Even if their kinds normally wouldn’t spend time together, or even live very close to each other, maybe one or both could be vagrants, and just happen to choose a friend that most others of her kind wouldn’t…?

I nicknamed Macaroni that because when I decided to see what she would look like with a reddish-orange eye and I thought she looked like a Macaroni penguin. I suppose it’s a bit odd for Macaroni to be a girl since one of the meanings of the word “macaroni” without the word penguin on the end, well… it means a fashionable man who lived a long time ago, doesn't it… but maybe this Macaroni could be a flamboyant, sassy, spunky tomboy, or something, I don’t know. And of course Macaroni is also a food, which I suppose is partly why I decided to nickname the other dolphin Macaroon. I imagined her being softer, sweeter, shyer, and plainer than her buddy, so I thought maybe Macaroon would fit her as a nickname. Also incidentally, despite drawing Macaroni lagging slightly behind Macaroon, I now imagine Macaroni being more of the leader, more dominant, and Macaroon being more of the follower, more submissive… which I find funny ‘cause of the size difference… And I thought they should have names with some similarities, to help make them seem more like a pair, since I thought they look kind of nice together…
