"Murana, what are you doing?"

Those words struck a chord of fear in her heart. She didn't want Anthony to see her investigation. She didn't want him to know the lengths she went to in tracking down her targets and pinpointing a specific time and place to take them out and remove them from existence. These were bad people who had done awful things that ruined so many people's lives. The cop in her wanted to bring them to justice, but the vigilante in her wanted to give them vengeance. She knew it was an awful thing to do to use the police system and work from the inside to nail the worst perpetrators.

"What are you doing up so late?" She nervously responded, shutting the journal with all her detailed notes.

"I woke up and realized you weren't in bed with me, so I came looking for you. What is it that you're working on?" Anthony tried to peer over at the mess of paperwork on the vanity.

Murana smiled and tried to brush it off. "Oh, just some stuff for work."

Anthony furrowed his brow. "Is that the triple murder case of the Pevensie children?" He sighed. "Murana... you're off the clock and it's not allowed to take work and official paperwork home to an unsecure location."

Murana did her best to look remorseful. "I'm sorry, hun. It's just that... this case is really bothering me. I really want to see this guy in jail. He needs to be off the streets."

"I agree and I want him gone behind bars too, but agonizing over everything like this isn't going to help you mentally. You're losing sleep, babe. How about you come to bed right now and then take that stuff back into the precinct tomorrow? All investigative work needs to be turned in anyway." He offered.

She nodded with a smile, stacking everything nice and neat on the vanity. "Of course. I'm sorry. Just been a stressful week. I'll be in there in a minute, just need to get ready for bed."

"Of course. See you soon." He winked, making a gesture that she could ignore or take him up on something more fun later in bed. With a swish of his tail, he left the room. She quickly hid the notes and pictures in a drawer and locked it.

She exhaled. That was too close. She was so close to solving this case and figuring out exactly where the criminal would be tomorrow night. The last thing she needed was her husband finding out her double life. She knew this was wrong to use both him and their job to make her vigilante work easier, but it was so hard to drop these bad habits. She had promised herself when she became a cop to stop this destructive path, but sometimes and with some cases like this Pevensie one, it struck a raw nerve and the Darkflamewolf inside demanded justice for those slain.

Tomorrow would decide which voice she would listen to...
