Sitting Pretty (critique requested)

DakotaMalamute

TyFusky struck up a pose for me while we were hanging around outside the FCN 2013 hotel. I just love the coloring on his suit!

Sadly I did not have my actual camera on me, but I managed to snap this on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus and made it look half decent with some post processing.

love how he pops out against the B&W

Thanks! It took a few minutes to figure out the best way to make him pop out of the background which, to be honest, is rather bland around the hotel.

    This is fantastic. Really.

This is really my favorite of the three. You had a really photogenic pose, and the background composition works really well with the black and white desaturation.

    thinking pretty. looking pretty,

The black and white BG does really work for this, as Kirrlaos said.

It might just be the OCD side of me, but the only thing I would change is re-posing with the subject more centered on the rock. It might just be the angle this is at, but IT LOOKS WEIRD LIKE PEOPLE WOULDN'T SIT LIKE THAT OH THE INJUSTICE. :v

      Thank you for the feedback!

You're absolutely right. Despite trying to keep the image balanced in cropping, it looks like Ty is being a wierdo and sitting with only one cheek on the rock haha. When I remember to carry an actual camera, I'll keep this in mind and get the fursuiters, or any subject for that matter, to try to sit not only only naturally (because his pose itself does work for the fursuit) but also in a way that looks better with respect to the environment. The above shot was very much impromptu and "hey you, sit still for a second while I snap this!"

If I were a Photoshop master, I'd try moving the rock, but that's well beyond my skill level without it being noticeable by someone with a trained eye. That and I try to be in the habit of not messing with a photo's composition. I definitely make color adjustments and may even touch up a few blemishes or distracting debris, but as far as moving/adding/subtracting major objects, I'm a purist unless it's a special case e.g. product photo.

Oh yea definitely, I never like to do anything other than correct color in photos and cropping. Even spot removal I'm wary about because even if other people don't notice imperfections that result from it, I will remember them and that's all I'll ever be able to see. :P

Agreed. Typically I'll only do spot removal if something like, say, a pebble or something on an otherwise perfect floor that I know can be removed almost perfectly and, if left alone, is a huge eyesore or distraction.
