Marlene was once a human girl who's parents didn't have time to raise her, but the Primarina who they had named Madonna took care of her and made sure that Marlene could grow up to be a proper woman who who treats others with kindness and respect, though she does still have an awkward fascination for tails.
Though maybe not as awkward for her actual parents when she considers Madonna her real mom.
Let us just say that there's lots of family therapy.

One day after she moved out in search for a job, specifically a singer due to Madonna's influence, she happened upon a beach where a weird wristwatch, and trying it out, she felt a sting and after being covered in metallic plates and and blacking out, she saw that she's become a robot. Not just any robot but a Primarina robot!

While surprised at first, she realized how her new form improved not only her swimming, but most importantly, her singing voice!

And with that she went out and auditioned to become an idol. She was also scouted by the creators of the wristwatch and expected her and her manager to work and pay for it.
But at least it made her meet other Pokéroids including Shade, who despite not being as cheerful and annoyed by the Primarina's obsession with petting tails got to become a good friend of hers.

There's sadly no other water typed Pokéroid by that that corporation, she was still able to make friends with water Pokémon. And there was the time where she met up with a cyborg Floatzel. What her story is will have to wait for another time.
