Fun fact: There's actually three Days of the Dead as celebrated in Mexico and abroad. They fall on Halloween, All Saints' Day (November 1), and All Souls' Day (November 2). Skeletons feature prominently in the celebrations as everyone has one.

It sounds sort of like a neutral middle ground between Hallowe'en and the ful Dias de Los Muertos. That makes sense, though, as there's bound to be cultural variations of the concepts in neighboring areas.

Where I live we only have Day of the Dead and All Saint's Day. No costumes or skeletons or trick or treating or anything else sadly, just going to the cemetaries.
