Sylvannah's modern iteration is a combat medic for a black-ops team. Combat medics differ from medical officers and field medics in that they are actually expected to assume combat roles when their medical skills are not needed. This is especially important for medical officers assigned to small strike-teams, which is usually the case for Sylvannah. Given her history of combat training, she would have felt her skills were going to waste if she were strictly medical personnel.
