The Price of Blood by Clove Darkwave

The Price of Blood

Clove Darkwave

This piece was a poem I was inspired to write from the perspective of the character Rilvor, in response to recent events in canon from the story (Or would that be stories?) my Fiance and I collaborate on together.

As you might have guessed this is about the death of a loved one, in this case his blood-bonded partner Tenebra when she was brutally killed in one of several encounters with the Elder Dragon Niodenimous (I think I spelled that correctly).

A bit of additional context and lore: In Xibalban culture, the one Rilvor comes from, there is a ritual that can be performed with a partner one plans to be with "forever". This ritual is called a Blood Bond and it is quite literal in its performance. There is quite a lot of detail to it, which you can read in my submission "The Children of Camazotz: Part 1" (a project I need to revisit, revise, and most importantly finish...) but the point here is that one feels the bonded partner die while yet living, hears the last thoughts echoing, intimately knows the last emotions, and that once omnipresent feeling of the other being there no matter where they were suddenly snuffed out.

Fortunately they exist in a universe where resurrections are possible, if he can retain his sanity through her death and his grief. Of course, there is the small matter of his deity being Camazotz which while He is an "evil" god does not consider himself such. Camazotz is just loving enough to keep his followers worshiping him but cruel enough to keep them in line, and will take great pleasure in seeing the slightly irreverent Rilvor beg and plead.

Inspirational music was "Ow" by Stephan Moccio, give it a listen if you appreciate the Piano. Maybe give the poem a second read while it plays.
