Haven't played, though is something that I might have to pick up eventually because the series looks awesome :)
yes, it is. morrowind was good, oblivion bored me a bit (so i never finished the main quest), have to get a hardware upgrade (or x-box) to try skyrim, but it looks like it might be the best of all. expect glitches, glitches everywhere (Bethesda's under the design philosophy of "eh, good enough") but pours blood sweat and tears into fleshing out the setting. open ended enough it kinda spoiled tabletop DnD for me - I got used to taking one look at a cave and thinking "this feels like it probably doesn't have much loot in it" and moving on to the next one... doesn't work so well when that cave took your dungeonmaster all week to map out ;p
I'd probably be in the same boat with Skyrim, I currently have a descent laptop, though intend to do a custom linux desktop when I have the space, time and disposable income. I have played D&D, though our DM railroaded us A LOT. I've been writing a large Call of Cthulhu campaign that will be very open ended and it is HELL. The DM's job is never easy and are usually a masochist who likes it or an idiot who says "That sounds easy...". I've been trying to get into more gaming, but cannot bring myself to pay money for only a limited amount of entertainment...
nods I've noticed that with a lot of imagination and good friends, a single RPG manual could keep you entertained for life...

yeah... my Oblivion archer (khajiit, what else?) was stuck with a purple aura from his magic shielding too... :p
