Day 31 - Mask by Skogskisse

Day 31 - Mask

Skogskisse

"The viitil are one of the comparatively few people of the Wildlands that do not revere the Eight, instead having decided to seek contact with their own deities. Their desert communities worship beings colloquially known as "Watchers". The Watchers, unlike the Eight, age, die and give birth just like the natural, living creatures do. They are an ever expanding pantheon of beings who have forged bonds with the viitil for centuries. A generation of viitil therefore doesn't necessarily worship the same deity as their progenitors did.

A single citizen of each settlement is chosen to be the messenger: the one who speaks with the deity at certain times of the year. These messengers are given a mask which is painted to resemble the deity they will speak with. This mask must remain on while they meet and exchange thoughts with the Watcher. The messengers must not show their true feelings and thoughts, lest their deities see through their disguise and glean their true reactions to the messages they recieve. A deity cannot always give good news, after all, and angering them with frustration over one's fate is ill-advised.

Moonwatcher is the intermediary of his town, tasked with the duty of communicating his people's wishes and concerns to his chosen deity, Sakriti. He takes his task very seriously and seems to seek his Watcher out more often than the designated times of the year."

Inktober completed for the second time. I ran out of steam and interest toward the end, but there are some entries I am pleased with. This is also the last drawing to fit on my sketchpad, it's full now.

Now I can finally start posting other things. Not that I have a lot, because the animation is taking much of my time.

Grattis, you did it! I was supposed to participate on this, but i forgot it and then felt like i don't want to rush up to date, so i gave up. Hopefully i remember it for next year.
And agreed, the lore you put on most of the pieces were nice small additions.
