Arcanine
Adapted from “Heart of Mine” (Caldwell/Scheff/Matkosky)
One day you may
Find discipline that lasts forever and ever
Till then you’ll spend
A lifetime fleeing bonds you’ve severed
You never thought to say goodbye
And we’ll never understand the reasons why
Arcanine
Why do you keep defying
Stop fire-spitting
Who am I kidding
Arcanine
Oh, what’s the use in trying
No one can tame you now
First came fool James
You can’t believe he’s such a lamer trainer
Then see Jenny
She couldn’t make it any plainer
We couldn’t make you toe the line
Now we’ll always be the ones you left behind
Arcanine
Why do you keep defying
Stop fire-spitting
Who am I kidding
Arcanine
Oh, what’s the use in trying
No one can tame you now
And we’ll never understand the reasons why
Arcanine
Why do you keep defying
Stop fire-spitting
Who am I kidding
Arcanine
Oh, what’s the use in trying
No one can tame you now
Oh, Arcanine
Arcanine

From 2013.
Adapted from “Heart of Mine” written by Bobby Caldwell, Dennis Matkosky, and Jason Scheff—best remembered as a single for Boz Scaggs in 1988.
My experience in the Pokémon franchise is limited to some early seasons of the anime, and to those better versed it probably shows. The young James, for instance, only had a Growlithe.
The Arcanine hook popped into my head early in the week, but I wanted to make sure that the untrainability angle was plausible. After some Google-fu I elected to run with it.
