Cassander Perched in the Mountains by Nambroth

Cassander

Art by nambroth.

August 2012.

When I had the pleasure of meeting Nambroth at AC, I commissioned her to draw a watercolor painting of me and gave a few suggestions for poses and environments. She chose to draw me perching in the Appalachian mountains and this wonderful piece is the result. Alas, this scan doesn't really show the beautiful glint of the metallic paint used, but I haven't been able to properly capture that even with photos.

Although I've never lived in the mountains, no place has quite felt like home like the Appalachians. Whenever I'm out there, whether in the Smokies of North Carolina and Tennessee or the Alleghenies of West Virginia and Pennsylvania, I always get this calling. The woods beckon me further and I am tempted to keep on following that trail or stream and to never return to the world of cities and men.

So far I have resisted that call, but I guess this is what I'd hope would become of me if I didn't.
