It's okay to remember. Just keep aware that you are safe, here. Every time something reminds you, let the memory pass through you until you can focus on the present again. It will get easier with time.

Lana: “It’s okay to remember Kaari. Just stay aware, you’re safe here. I’m not going to let anything bad happen.”

She starts taking some more deep breaths, and I offer her my paw.

I'm right here for you. How about you sit down in the tub, I'll face the other way if it makes you feel more comfortable, and I'll hold your hand and pull you out if anything feels wrong. We'll take it slow, together.
Agreed, physical contact so no matter what her subconscious throws at her she can feel that she is safe and supported.

Lana: “I’m right here for you Kaari. You can hold my paw, and if you don’t feel safe give it a tug. I’ll pull you back to dry land.”

She tenses up for a moment, and lets out another breath.
Kaari: “Promise?”

Lana: “Of course. I’ll even face the other way. I promise not to look.”

She grabs my paw.

Kaari: “Thanks for putting up with me Lana.”

She pauses for a moment, before looking back at the tub.
Kaari: “Mind looking away for a moment while I get in?”

I nod my head and she lets go of my paw. I turn around and face the faucet, and start running some more hot water.
