I get out of bed and shuffle over to the microwave. I squint at the cupboard as the nightlight shines in my face. I find my favorite tea cup and fill it up with water. I push the button to open the door. The cup tinks and clunks as I set it down inside. The microwave beep beep beeps as I type in how long I want to go for. Just a minute and twenty-five seconds like always. Gives me that sweet spot temperature of just right.

The warm yellow light and the “mmmmmmmmmmmmm” sound of the microwave going gets me purring. I pace around the kitchen while I wait for it to finish heating up. Out of habit, I stop and open the microwave’s door right at the last second. Hate those loud beeps it blares when it's finished.
