You're My Good Boy by Bracket

You're My Good Boy

Sol was a very anxious young mutt. No matter what he, his family, or any of his friends did, he had a tendency to believe everything was his fault and that everyone he loved would one day leave. Because of this he did not have a very happy life, despite being around many people who wanted to help. No one could figure out what to do, and he even lost a few people he cared about very much because of these problems he had. This only made the problem worse, because it fed into his belief that he drove everyone he loved away.

Now, one day his parents had an idea. They went out one day and were out all night, leaving Sol in the care of a family friend. When they returned home, they set up a soft purple cushion and some other things - supplies, they hoped, to help their pup's anxiety. Sol woke rather early the next morning, and padded downstairs, the silence of the house making him nervous. Had everyone gone somewhere without him? He reached the bottom of the stairs, and let out a small gasp at what he saw.

There, near the couch, was the smallest creature Sol had ever seen. His parents came up behind him, and explained that this was a new friend for Sol. His name was Isil, and he was a fennec/arctic fox hybrid. This little fellow, his parents continued, had a similar problem to Sol. His previous families had not treated him very well, and had always made him feel like he was unimportant and not wanted. Because of this other, better than his other homes also didn't work out - even though he just wanted to be loved. Upon hearing this, Sol's face grew serious and he toddled over to the sleeping fox.

Isil opened his eyes and immediately cowered, large ears back nervously. Surely this one would do exactly what the others had done - get angry when he wanted their company, berate him for expressing his feelings, and treat him as if he didn't matter at all. Isil didn't want to be hurt again, and whined quietly.

Sol's heart just about broke and he smiled, cupping the creatures cheeks in his tiny hands. "It's okay," he murmured, bumping their noses together softly. "You're a good boy, I can tell. And you'll always be my good boy." Isil's ears didn't go up, but his tail twitched slightly and he nuzzled closer. Maybe this time would be different.

Copy/pasted below in case for some reason the .txt file doesn't work. This was a gift for Isil early on in the relationship.
