夕食 by BabyPandora (critique requested)

夕食 (critique requested)

BabyPandora

夕食 (yuushoku) means "dinner."

I originally meant for it to be lunch, that's why there's not much food on the table (Japanese dinners are huge, I can't figure out how they're so thin over there). But I liked the idea of a sunset better than just a boring blue sky in the background.

Did it take more time to add all the shading? Yes. Was it worth it? Of course, look at it! :D

Personally, I think this is one of my best works. I wish I could have added more detail into it, but I need to find an art program that allows for repeating patterns. Unless SAI can do that, but I haven't found a tool that can yet.

This is based off of an RP going on between my friend Nieve and myself. We're taking a class trip to a ryokan, and I has to get accustomed to Japanese life because I'm a foreign exchange student (She's teaching me a little about Japanese culture at the same time, I love it!).

Enjoy :3

I'm so jealous! I wanna travel to Japan myself one day.

I love the scenery, but it seems higher quality than the characters. I'm not sure if it's because the characters call for more attention or what it is. I would recommend an orange tint for sunset lighting, purplish/pinkish clouds, and the sun to be more redish at that time of day.

Thank you ^^ I love it when I finally get critcism.

This picture was intended to practice backgrounds and improve my shading, so I may have overshadowed (no pun intended) the characters.

And I'll be honest, the sunset is a picture lol. I wasn't confident in my abilities to do a sunset.

Thank you very much for the criticism. :3

I know the feeling on wanting criticism, there have been a few times I posted a banner requesting crit and didn't get much feedback about it. I try to check the "crit requested" spot on the front page every-day and leave something each time if I think I can help.

Now that you mention the shading on the characters that's where the difference is, the shadows in the background has softer edges than that on the characters.

You did a very good job of blending it in lol.

The characters' shading was intentional :3 I do a hard shading, then go back over it with the airbrush tool
