Plushie: Kousan the Mistle Thrush by Avanii

Plushie: Kousan the Mistle Thrush

Avanii

Made in 2012.

A completely different kind of plushie this time: a bird. More specifically, a mistle thrush. I noticed there were no plushies of this bird and that's unacceptable, so there :) I took a lot of liberties with their spots though, especially on the face. But the white was too cute to paint over... So yeah, birds! This was a test to see if my bird pattern could work, it does, although I need to adjust the balance problem he has now. Stronger legs, I think.
I really, really want a plushie of a European jay (my fav bird) but as they have such complex markings, I wanted to try a less complicated bird first. I'm especially pleased with the wings, they look nicely stylized, but still sort of realistic, haha. Also a close-up photo of the legs, which are needle-felted, but not strong enough to keep the body in balance. There is a pipe cleaner in each wing to make them poseable, but it didn't really work out as I had planned, so for the next bird I will have to make sure the pipe cleaners can't move inside the wing.

Kousan (which means 'singer' I believe, seemed appropriate) is 15 cm/6 inch from tail tip to head (measured over the back) and has a wingspan of 27 cm/11 inch.
He is made of 1,3 cm long faux fur, with 0,6 cm long fur used on the tail and part of the wings. The feet are needle-felted and the beak is made of soft, 0,1 cm faux fur. He has black glass eyes and the spots were painted on with Copic marker.

Please enjoy!
