This is my character, Noclac, from a massive novel series I've been working on since second grade. Hopefully one day I can actually finish the first book and not feel like it's so bad I need to re-write it XD Anyway, he's a runaway assassin and an Eagle, but has a mainly humanoid structure aside from his ears and wings. So I found that he was one of the best characters to use for facial anatomy practice. Please, do not draw him without permission.

IF YOU WANT TO CRITIQUE ME READ THE INFORMATION BELOW:
I feel pretty confident in all the anatomy except for anything with his hair. So please, when critiquing, just ignore the hair. I'm aware that it's shit; I just scribbled it in there as a placeholder really without much thought about how it should be to look more natural. Other than that, though, critique away!

Don't be mean, and offer proper critique. If you offer critique, offer information about what's wrong and how to fix it. Don't be afraid to tell me what's right either - knowing what's correct helps me continue to do that!

Okay this will be my first critique so I'm sorry if I don't make much sense ^^ I'll try to be as clear as possible!

I have to say the one thing I noticed to be off was the nose. It seems to be a bit too large for his face. Unless that was the point you were going for, I would say try to make it a bit smaller next time. I would also suggest using guidelines as well if you don't already use them. I understand at first they seem very annoying, but they help you out so much in the long run and help keep things in a proper balance.

I also have to say the mouth looks a little odd as well. When doing a profile I would try to keep in mind that the face is not made of blocks, http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/029/6/9/sketchy_by_trickof_themind-d74ap5f.png I made a quick sketch of what I mean. As you start from the forehead , you gradually arc inwards till you reach the chin.

I also like the use the eyes to help me figure out where my nose should start. I always start with a straight line for the forhead, then make a curve inwards to help define the nose. The curve will always be largest at eye level. I also added in a rough sketch of what I mean there as well.

The best way to improve is to also just observe. Pic a style you are aiming for and try to mimic what you see that person do. It may sound a bit like cheating, but it's how many artist start out. ^^

He's part bird, so rather than giving him a straight up beak I did want to give him a larger nose, but if it looks ridiculous that is fair too lolz Thank you so so much for your critique and that sketch is UBER helpful :D I really appreciate it!
