Despite the darker tendencies of her brethren, Athena notably lacks the disgust towards mortals so common in her brothers and sisters- perhaps because of her chosen world, Parthenos. Like many of her other, Greek-inspiring siblings, Athena selected one species to receive her divine providence. She chose the Moth, insectoid creatures renown almost without fail across the universe as one of, if not the most, beautiful species in existence. The dust produced by their delicate wings is highly sought after as a mystical catalyst, rumored to cure any ailment, boost intelligence, and even, in high concentrations, cause controlled evolution. Because of this, many species have endeavored to capture, enslave, or kill any Moth they can. Athena was absent for many centuries, and in this time the Moth were scattered to the stars, refugees hidden by kind souls in the far corners of existence. Athena, however, has reawakened, and calls to her beautiful children, angered beyond comprehension at their exploitation. Sen’Rekkan noted that Athena had existed in his youth, and that she changed dramatically some point before the Brother’s War- in fact, she had been of counsel to Master Seven-Tails on his hunts at least once.

This was another commission requested by BossLeBlanc, with a subject I was allowed to choose from his list of gods and creatures. This time, I chose the goddess Athena, whose appearance is said to have inspired Earth's Greek goddess of the same name. Here, with her shield and white hot spear, she protects a member of the Moth still wearing the scars and chains of their imprisonment.
