A fake 'screenshot' of my two characters, Rolf and Billy (guess which one is which?) The name's are very stupid- I know. I just thought it was funny because it seems so obvious. Rolf sounds real for a second, but it literally translates to wolf. Billy ... well, he's a goat.
As for what made me draw. I love the style of that sort of 2000s cartoon look... a bit hard to describe but think like Powerpuff, Samurai Jack, or my favorite- but less popular (but was a popular meme again?) Clone High. They are all very distinct shows both in art and tone but they give off a vibe that I think they share. I always wished I could have my own show, I still do a bit. (it won't ever happen, I just make comics when I can). While I talk about cartoons: the checker logo in the corner- Like cartoon network. I was lucky my usernames letter count matched on both. Oh, and the moon. When it's a crescent, I make it that jagged golden one. I picked that up from a 2000s video game (Psychonauts, also very nostalgic for me...)
For the effect: I've experimented with the technique of making drawings look like screenshots though before. What I do is create a cloned layer with more contrasting colors and is overall brighter and more saturated. Then I offset it and put it on an overlay effect, then lower the opacity to whatever my liking for the effect's 'strength'. I just then add a bunch of noise and go back and manually edit colors as much as I want until I like it.
Still... I'd love to just try painting on a real animation cel for fun. I'd have to make it count though.
