Coffee Break by Aliehs Slade

Coffee Break

Aliehs Slade

This is history right here!
And my first official new piece of art since moving here!
I have never....ever...done an in depth, full illustrated background like this. Lots of perspective here....and I am sure its probably terrible LOL! I haven't done perspective drawing since high school...and that was over 5 years ago and if memory serves me well...I hated it and didn't do it very well. Those were the days when I didn't appreciate what I was being taught, I was more resentful that I was being forced to learn "crap" I wouldn't use and being told what to draw/paint/whatever. So close minded, clearly didn't see or understand the bigger picture. Young artists: I have a very important piece of advice to give you! No matter how much the subject you are learning sucks, or you feel you will never use, learn it anyway and pay attention. You might not get it now, but you will some day and you will be glad you did =)

I learned a couple of things when working on this.
1: I really need to focus more on SLOWING DOWN
2. Perspective is hard, sucks, but is necessary.
3. My "snow" technique could have been better -need to crack down on salt-watercolor techniques (I am still learning!)
4. I really should focus on details, I have always had the idea of what Ali's apartment looked like, but when it came to actually drawing it I got stuck on decor LOL! What color walls does she have? What kind of curtains? UGH! I gave her grey carpet instead of the wood floors she should have out of fear really, maybe a little laziness. With my noobness to perspective I thought I should play it safe and stick to easy things for the moment.

ANYWHOOOOOO!

This is Ali, my lovely fursona whom I haven't drawn in....a long time. Ali and I have been at odds with each other....I have kinda left all my furry art behind me since getting into wood burning which is regrettable. I love burning but nothing makes me happier than drawing my own characters and doing my own things. I don't want to be known as that one wood burner that recreates other images onto wood. Furry art is my passion, my first love, and should be the spotlight =)
Ali is taking a break from pouring over cases to have a hot cup of coffee in her window seat on a snowy winter day. I like the startled look on her face, like the viewer is catching her at a vulnerable moment and sees, despite her cold exterior, she really is just a girl who loves a cup of joe <3

Done in watercolor pencils, outlined in a black pilot pen.
