Angel Eyes by Aliehs Slade

Angel Eyes

Aliehs Slade

This is a bittersweet image...

A friend of mine wanted me to do an angel for his mother. I jumped at the chance because I have wanted to try feathers, and this was my chance.

So I surfed the web and came across this BEAUTIFUL portrait by http://zindy.deviantart.com and was like....I love this. He was looking for pictures as well but I showed him this one and he absolutely loved it as well so I thought I would give it a try.

This image frightened me from the very beginning! After I got her transferred onto the wood I just stared at her thinking....what have I gotten myself into?!?!? This picture holds all the elements that scare me to death. VERY light shading, light tones, and....feathers. The easiest part of this whole picture...was her eyes, but that has always been my strongest point.

To make a long story short...I left the wings for last and put it off for so long...because as beautiful as the original drawing is to me, I wanted to do different wings. And here is my end result. I am still not fond of the feathers, mainly the long ones. I feel they are too artificial, but they are growing on me.

I have to say though...in my personal opinion...she was a real test to my abilities and might be my best burning yet.

Again, the original artwork is here: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&a.....+angel#/dgvof8
Her gallery is FILLED with amazing artwork and is a must see!!

This is wood burning, I added just a little bit of watercolor pencil to her eye for color but the rest is the natural color of the wood.
