Ok, this is a blast from the past! Literally!

Most of you youngsters might not know anything about this show, but back in the 80's there was a T.V. series called Beauty and the Beast that was far from the animated Disney movie you all are probably thinking of when reading that title. B&B was a romantic/thrilling story about Catherine and the very, very loveable Vincent. The classic tale of beauty and the beast in a "modern" depiction. I was young when the show aired, but I remembered it and in my memory I went in search of the DVDs and collected all 3 seasons, watching them nonstop! Knocking disc after disc out at a time and resulting in a Vincent complex LOL. Sorry...Ron Pearlman just played him so beautifully and you couldn't help but fall hard for his elegant speech and gentle personality. Gah! Sorry. A fan girl moment hehe.

Anyways...through my obsession and my new found art form of wood burning...I thought I would challenge myself. A portrait. My FIRST portrait. And what better subject to try it out on than the wonderful Vincent? HA! I had problems from the beginning!!! I can't tell you how many times I almost made him into fire wood because of how frustrated I was. I suppose normal human faces might be easier...but as you can see, Vincents' face is far from normal. My BIGGEST complaint about him was his face. Even though I had a wonderful reference, it still did not help how much of a bother his face was for me. Even in the picture that I had to go by, his face was split in two, and now that I have him finished I can defend it, at the time it just wasn't making me happy. I was too caught up in beautifying him rather than burning him as he is. His face is supposed to look different. One side darker, more menacing, threatening, while the other is gentle, and welcoming. That is Vincent.

So, I give to you, my attempt at wood burning Vincent from Beauty and The Beast. My all time fave TV series ever.

--By the way, you must full view this to really appreciate it, seriously. Even if you just want an idea of what wood burning is all about, if you full view it you will see in great detail, all the strokes of the burning tools and the shading.

Thanks for viewing!!!
