GET IT?!?! bc. the characters combine to make a figure if u look at it from a distance...
this was a class project, my final art response project, actually, in response to matisse's cut outs exhibition at the moma :'D
when she gave us the assignment i thought about it for a long time before finally deciding on trying my hand at digital papercraft- i've done actual papercraft before, but never digital, and because digital is my main medium in which i work, i felt like this would be a challenge
i found it ironic that in the write ups about matisse, that at the end of his life as he worked on cut outs more, they grew more ambitious, as in their sizes and complexity increased- and i thought that was funny because my starting idea for this was just a figure mimicking the blue-nude women series of his, but my AMIBITIONS WERE SKY HIGH and i ended up cramming a few of my characters, both old and new, to form that same figure shape
not to mention i did this from 8pm yesterday to 5-6am this morning LMAO... originally the idea was to be single or monochrome colors but nah. gotta make myself WERK. so colored it is
