Farewell to Halcyon by Akysi

Farewell to Halcyon

Akysi

I had to say goodbye to my childhood home this year. I’ve come to realize that I’ve lost every home that I associate with childhood now, with this being the final one. The last time I was there was on my birthday, of all days.

I started this on that day, and finished it today, the official closing date. It feels a lot more permanent now. No one image can encapsulate such a feeling, but I consider this a tribute nonetheless.

I’m a sentimental creature, it’s true.

Oi, I know this feeling too well. It's been nearly 23 years or so since I lost my childhood home, and 13 years-ish since it burned down. It's like a death in the family when one is lost, isn't it? Especially one so loved.
But really, this is beautiful and definitely a great way to remember your last childhood home. Though I am wondering what the things on the sides are. Telephone poles? Large fences? :o

Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss Bartan :( It definitely does have that impact, even if the family I lived with there is still around. I find that "home" is the people rather than the building itself, but of course the building and the area it's in still hold a lot of those memories too. I don't live in my old town anymore either and it was a recent move, so that feeling of loss is increased for me. It'll get a bit easier as time passes.
And thank you, I kept it more abstract to add to that "idyllic memory" feeling. My old house was in a residential subdivision so there were fences in between and behind the houses. I didn't draw them accurately to real life (or the other houses next to mine) to maintain the focal point.
