Taariq by Adventurer

Taariq

Adventurer

Another piece from my backlog, this one was from January 2015.

Original description from DA:

Taariq is a moroblin, a species endemic to mainland Argona (the nation that some better-known characters such as Harry and Leroi hail from). I've had the moroblin species sitting around for a few years, but because they aren't native to Purithym (the archipelago the story takes place in) and also have a minuscule migration rate, I hadn't planned to actually have any moroblin characters appear in the story. I figured they'd just be mentioned briefly by Argonan characters, and maybe one or two nameless moroblins might be seen in the background at some point, but that was about it.

Then Taariq entered my head one day and whoops, suddenly I have a proper moroblin character. It's probably for the best, though - the species was kind of "going to waste" just existing in the background so I suppose it was about time I developed an actual character anyway.

All those spiky growths are a natural feature of moroblins, but the markings are body paint. Taariq is only 13, so she is actually less spiky than older moroblins; the spikes continue to grow well into adulthood. Argonan humans call moroblins "horriblins" and have urban legends about them being a race of demons, due to their appearance and some cultural factors such as the fact that humans are generally massive jerks. But despite the pejorative name-calling and rumour-spreading, moroblins and humans have rarely come into conflict with one another due to the fact that moroblins reside deep in the desert areas of Argona, considered uninhabitable to other species. This is in contrast to the other sapient species of Argona whose constant conflict with humans, particularly over land rights, is a very deep-rooted social issue . . . but that's a story for another day!
