I look up to where the sky once was.
I’m hoping to see a glimmer. A star.
I am too deep to see such things, and I knew even before I had sunk this far that all the pole stars had died, yet for once I turned my eyes upward.
There was nothing. A vast emptiness that takes the breath away of a dare for hope.
I knew there would be nothing, it was what I was expecting. Yet I can’t help but feel that crushing emptiness fill my lungs again.
