Forgive me I don't know gritty sprite art as you mean?

Oh just art that was used in really old action video games from the 1990's. Some of the badguys that you would fight in some games could look similar to the demon you drew here. :)

Those, and a couple of lesser known and more obscure games that featured a whole lot of various creature designs.^^
You might wanna check out some old "Sega Genesis tribute" videos. Or video game tribute videos to other older gaming platforms, like the Super Nintendo, the NES, the old "MS-DOS" PC gaming platform, the "Commodore Amiga" (or just "Amiga"), and the "Turbografx 16", among others.
There have been tons of older games that aren't as "sung" ("unsung" games) as the most popular games that most people recognize. :D <3

The style here makes me think of the gritty sprite art styles seen in some old Sega Genesis games, and newer modern games. :)
