Can't forget this in my new Weasyl gallery since it's one of my favorite pieces I've ever done. This design will eventually be a tattoo of mine. This is also my first piece where I was successfully able to make Celtic knotwork, spirals and key patterns freehand using a grid. In fact, the whole thing was mapped out on grid paper beforehand before transferring it over to the nicer paper; the gridded version is going to make for a good tattoo flash outline, when it comes time to transfer it.
It depicts my L'tahr character Topaz. I wanted the design to be as traditionally Celtic as possible while adding my own personal elements to it. The colors where also considered based off of a question I asked myself, "If this was an actual plaque hanging on a wall, what would it be made out of?" So I decided it would be made out of bronze, gold, red jasper, blue enamel and a stone that exists in my Dreamscape setting known as "petraquoise." As a result I was very mindful of lighting, texture and color vagaries. You really would have to download this one to see a lot of the little details...
Done on 11''x14'' Strathmore off-white drawing paper with chalk pastels, Derwent Coloursofts and white gel pen. Character, race, art and overall design are © to myself.
