Rivalry by StangWolf

Rivalry

StangWolf

I've been meaning to find a way to post this (and two others) for a long time now. I've been thinking I'd take them and get them scanned someplace that has a large scanner, but I either keep putting it off or can't find the time. So I broke out my camera and took some photos of them to post!

They're not quite the usual vibrancy that scanning captures, but it still worked really well!

That being said, this is one of 3 of my "Series Drawings" that were our final assignment in my Drawing II Class in Spring of 2011. One of the projects I really enjoyed in all of my art courses, perhaps due to leniency in choosing our subject matter and media!

The series pieces all needed to be connected in some manner and I chose two things: 1) Marker & 2) Mustangs. As you will see with the posting of all three pieces.

***

This piece was actually my first in the series since this idea hit off immediately when I was trying to think up ideas.

I've always wanted to do something of a VS piece between the Mustang and Camaro and I finally got my chance to do so!

Rivalry here is working in two ways:

1) The actual cars themselves; Mustang vs. Camaro & even further Ford vs. Chevy. (Yes I know all you Dodge fans out there are in the mix too,and I LOVE the Challenger as well, but I only had room for two in this piece)

2) The colors chosen for the vehicles are contrasting colors. Blue and Orange being opposite one another on the color wheel and all that jazz.

This was a really fun piece to work on! I've never attempted colored vehicles or anything with a "shine" on it like metal and paint. Was tricky to plan out at first but after a bit it started coming together.

I did use references as well:

2011 Chevrolet Camaro RS (turned it into an SS in this piece)

2011 Ford Mustang GT

I also did a preliminary sketch on 8.5"x11" paper to plan out my idea before taking it to a larger piece of paper for the original:

This piece is around 17.25"x12.75".

I hope you enjoy!

Well, the Challenger isn't even really an American car anymore. RIP Dodge, may the Big Two live long and prosper.

(also everyone knows the Mustang is better. <3 )
