Farewell Proud Men

Sorry I haven't been around for so long. I got depressed about my artistic ability or lack thereof and spent a couple of months sulking about it. I've now picked myself up and put on my big boy pants, and embarked on a programme of personal study which involves a lot of observational drawing in traditional media. I'm actually managing to keep a sketchbook for the first time in my life holy shit.

So all these sketches I have been doing are very well but if I just put them away afterwards I'm wasting the work. More than anything I want to be able to draw and paint crazy ORIGINAL stuff, so I came up with this idea that will both use my sketchbook and give me creative prompts. As the sketchbook pages are all numbered I can use the computer to generate 2 random numbers from 1-n where n is the current number of filled pages in my book. Then I can do an original illustration based on whatever I sketched on those pages. Genius!

Here is my first try. For the random numbers I got page 13, which is part of the "cats 2" batch, and page 29, part of "skulls 1". This is what I came up with:

Divine cat-angels that prowl the battlefield after a slaughter to judge the spirits of the slain. If the soul is found worthy it is sent on its way, but if not, it is consumed to add to the cat's own flame. Better hope you're a lucky warrior, for cats are mischievous and notoriously fickle...

Focusing primarily on composition and value. Time spent: 2 metal albums worth :D
