Done with Denny's for a while! (Christmas Dinner Rant) by BobbyThornbody

Alright, so...

We decided to go to Denny's because it was cheap and it was open, and because we had nothing for a Christmas meal at home. This was myself, Chris, my old mate and his current boyfriend. They also had a turkey dinner special for Christmas, so Chris and I wanted to take advantage of that.

We get there and, as expected it was semi-full. But we only had a five minute wait before we got to a table. This... was the shortest that ANYTHING we waited for took. We get to the table and get our food ordered. We were expecting it to be a LITTLE backed up... but things quickly turned to chaos. On top of the food WE ordered, my old mate had ordered an appetizer, and a steak salad thing for dinner, and HIS mate ordered some nachos.

So.... Half an hour later, NOTHING had been brought to us.

Ten minutes past that, the first little bit of food arrives. The appetizer they ordered. Running dinner time : ~0:40. (This will become important as the story goes on).

Another half hour later, the nachos arrived. Running time: 1:10

Another 40 minutes later, the SALAD comes. Most of which aside from the steak is supposed to be COLD. Running time 1:50

At this point I was livid, so I demanded to speak to a manager. Me and Chris hadn't even gotten OUR food by this point. I spoke to the manager to ask what the hold up was.... and do you want to know what there excuse was? Their printer wasn't working, and every time they tried to print up our order, it came up double. I had to resist the urge to ask why they didn't just give the WRITTEN order slip to them... but even then, I questioned why it was that A HOT DISH (the nachos) came out BEFORE a mostly COLD dish (the salad).

And then, when I complained about the time discrepancy, they said that both orders were put in at the same time. Again, I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying "Explain to me, if they were put in at the same time, how NACHOS take 40 minutes, and a SALAD takes half an hour LONGER THAN THAT to make". Can you think of ANY Salad on earth that takes more than an hour to prepare one serving? They say they put the two orders in together but I don't believe it for a second and I TOLD THEM I didn't believe it.

So... after pitching a fit about that, would you believe it was still ANOTHER TWENTY MINUTES before mine and Chris' meals were FINALLY served to us? 2:10 to get all our food AT A DENNY'S!

But wait, there's more to the story...

We get and eat our food, and at this point, I was already telling Chris and our friends I was going to DEMAND we got comped. Well, we got the comp.... but at first it was only partial. At first, the comping the game us was that they COMPLETELY removed the costs of mine and Chris' MEAL entirely. But, at first, they tried to REFUSE to comp anything on our friends tickets, saying we got 'enough' compensation with our meals being taken off. When I raised further stink about it, saying THEIR meals were effected too.... another ENTIRE meal was SUDDENLY taken off the bill. They didn't WANT to comp our friends' meals because they comped me and Chris, but I would not let up.

You might be tempted at this point to say "well, maybe there was a problem in the kitchen."

There were NINE CHEFS. My old mates bf got a peek in the kitchen, and he says from what he saw nothing looked odd back there to him. I'm sorry but with the number of different excuses we kept being given, I did something today I've NEVER done before. If it hadn't been for the fact it was Christmas (which is already rough on me each year) I wouldn't have raised as much of a fuss, but this MADE ME MAD.

All told, tonight would have cost us roughly $60 total.... We got out of there having spent only $20.

Their excuse changed every time we complained. They didn't even stick to the same story. And, again, explain to me how a COLD dish takes longer to make than a HOT one.... especially when they were supposedly started at the same time?

Bobby: According to them based on 'everything was started at the same time'. Nachos take 1:10 and salad takes a grand total of 1:50 to make. And cheese sticks, tortilla chips, and queso sauce take 0;40 (the appetizer)

Thus, since it was all ordered at once and they SAY they started making it all at the same time. Here are the cooking times for these foods:

Appetizer: 0:40
Nachos: 1:10
Steak salad 1:40
two turkey dinners: 2:10

The thing that makes me the most mad? This is a DENNY'S! Not even a GOOD restaurant. Yes, I get that it's Christmas, and yes, they were bust, but NOTHING excuses the time discrepencies. If they were all cooked at the same time, we should not have had to wait that long.

Ya wanna hear something even funnier?

Well, when we had arrived, there was a party of two that was already seated (and I assumed at the time already ordered because they didn't have a menu at the time. At roughly an hour and a half into our debacle, I notice they had left. The waiters brought their food about fifteen minutes after that, and seemed dumbfounded that they weren't there. Gee... I wonder why...

Anyway, that's the end of my rant, and yeah, I won't be going back to Denny's for a LONG time,
