Real names? by Kalmor

How do you (or would you) feel about people in the fandom knowing it?

I ask because as I start posting music that's available elsewhere and asks for my real name, I'm a bit unsure of whether or not to link to them on my furry accounts or not.

So yeah, how do you feel?

Real names?

I don't mind but it's also a personal opinion on whether you want it out there. I don't want my name super attached to furry stuff because I need to get into a professional career and that might hurt it. But you need to decide that for yourself. :)

Hmmm, yeah. I think it's less of a problem if you just link to stuff that has your real name from~ your furry accounts, rather than link to furry things with accounts that have your real name. :P That's just too easy to find if you're an employer.

Because of my involvement in the NZ fandom, where I'm known on a first name basis, I kinda.. stopped caring. Though, that said, I don't make my last name known. At the very most, I use the initial when necessary, since I've never seen a site with a character limit for names.

Mmm, sounds reasonable. I've had a lot interesting responses to this on twitter. XD

I don't really fancy people knowing my real name online, but there are exceptions to the rule. It's a privacy issue for me, I want to limit how much personally identifiable information I put out there. The internet is anonymous, so I take advantage of that to an extent.

      Sounds reasonable!

    Hey, I'm Eddie Page.
Late response here, but real names are good.
I'd rather people call me Eddie than just 'Dingo'.

I mean, it feels more genuine and personable to be on a real name basis. I appreciate artists who do that. Like you're meeting actual people instead of pretending to know them from their fluffy avatars.

People do ascribe a lot of meaning to their fursona or whatever pseudonym they may have. It's more comfortable for them to use that name in the context of the fandom.

Hey, I'm not saying that isn't true for some furries. But for the purposes of something like music, the fluff is less.. important. I feel like it's more focused around the actual talent and expression of the real living person behind it. People who have respect for the musician and what they do.

Just to explain that last message a bit better, one might follow a visual artist because of their cute avatar. And you know, that'd be reasonable.
But of the music artists I follow, I sit down and listen through. It takes time, and more consideration and appreciation goes towards the person behind the avatar, rather than what the avatar represents.
In the same way that people would rather appreciate local businesspeople than just the company behind the Tesco logo.
I mean, this is only me talking, but hey.

I only exist if I want to. I have nothing to hide, but I still don't need total strangers knowing all about me.

      Completely understandable. :3
